A lot of people think that since they hunt or fish, they deserve the title ‘conservationist’ due to the taxes they pay that go to wildlife management. But we believe that if paying taxes to wildlife makes one a ‘conservationist’, then paying taxes serving local schools would make you a ‘teacher.’

The logic, and the real-world ramifications of living out that fallacy, are dangerous to the future of hunting and angling substituting as a ‘participation trophy.’

The reality is that tax programs that fund the bulk of conservation work in the United States are vital yet they simply are not enough to ensure healthy wildlife populations, vibrant ecosystems, or opportunities for future generations of hunters, anglers and wildlife enthusiasts. If our tax programs were enough, thousands of conservation organizations and the projects they manage would not need to exist.

We all need to do our part for conservation.

It’s time for hunters, anglers, and anyone who loves the outdoors to take personal responsibility for their future. This is why we created the 2% Personal Pledge.
