2% FOR CONSERVATION
BUSINESS CERTIFICATION

FACT: More than ever, consumers are choosing to support businesses that support the causes they care about. No matter where your business operates, no matter your industry, no matter your business size - 2% Certification is designed to be attainable and sustainable.

2% for Conservation certification is as easy as 1… 2… 3…

  1. You choose what conservation causes to support with your volunteered employee time.

  2. You choose what conservation causes to support with your donated dollars, products, and services.

  3. We certify that you have stuck to your commitment to conservation.

In a world where ‘conservation’ is in danger of becoming a cheap marketing buzzword, those that commit to the 2% Standard — along with the accountability it proves — rightfully earn greater consumer confidence and trust.

Like all respected leaders, 2% Certified Brands lead through their accountability to a meaningful standard. If your business supports conservation, you deserve to be acknowledged for it in the public eye and in your industry.

Ready to get your Business 2% Certified?

We applaud your commitment to conservation! Our application packet is very straight-forward, no-nonsense, and typically take businesses only 10 minutes to complete. Let’s get you started!

Some quick notes to help you out:

  • We only require the equivalent of 1% of one employee’s time that may be spread across the entire company.

That’s just 21 hours per year that you may give back to conservation causes as you see fit. We can help you brainstorm ways that are holistic to your business and employees. We structured it this way — versus requiring 1% of every employee’s time — so that you aren’t needing to pay someone to track donated hours; we’d rather see those dollars going to conservation.

  • When first signing up, you commit to the upcoming year, rather than proof from years prior to your relationship with us.

That means that you may put on the application what you intend to give to, and that’s good enough to get you started with your certification. We help you keep track as you go and then do a proper re-up at the end of your first year with us. Because it can be challenging to keep accurate track of your entire value of charitable giving, and there are many things that can be counted towards certification that may not necessarily show up on your tax documents.

  • Please remember to include the required proof-of-business documentation, which is listed in the application packet.

For most businesses, this is a copy of your LLC, DBA, or INC. paperwork from your local government. If we see anything out of place, don’t worry, we’ll work with you to get it squared away according to all legal requirements for certification.

  • When you’ve completed the packet, or if you have any questions, please email it to us at: contact@fishandwildlife.org

Annual Dues

You run a business; you know that almost everything costs something. While we work aggressively to keep our operational needs minimal, to not compete with conservation projects for funding, and to run a scrappy low-overhead operation… we still need to pay for things like this website, emails, employees and contractors… you get it.

All 2% Certified Brands are required to pay annual dues upon certification, which may be put towards their 1% of donated gross sales to conservation requirement for certification with us.

We operate predominantly off business member dues, with product sales from our website and our MT Conservation License Plate picking up the rest of the slack. In short - our financial capacity to support conservation work only grows at the same pace as we gain business members. This is by design. Also by design is our nominal dues structure. We modeled it from common certification organizations outside the outdoor/conservation space and then cut the annual fees to be even lower.

Membership recertification requires adherence to our annual recertification policy.
