ABOUT 2% FOR CONSERVATION™
2% for Conservation™ is a 501c3 non-profit certification organization based out of Manhattan, MT in the United States.
Our main program is certifying businesses and individuals that give at least 1% of the time and 1% of their money to fish and wildlife conservation. We don’t collect the donated time and dollars from members - we certify that they’ve given them to the causes that they are passionate about:
1% Time + 1% Money = 2% for Conservation™
While many business and individuals are hunters and anglers - this is NOT a requirement to become 2% Certified. Nearly half of our members do not identify as either, but want to support healthy wildlife populations, vibrant ecosystems, and community volunteerism.
The 2% Standard of donating 1% of time and 1% of dollars is meant to be a baseline - a starting point.
We believe that anyone can choose to become a conservationist. No matter the business, personal means, creed, age or where they live. We are working towards a future where any business or individual can get involved, support wildlife conservation, and make purchasing decisions on those factors.
Through the mechanism provided by 2% for Conservation™, connections are made and strengthened between businesses, conservation organizations, and consumers.
The networks that result from this model provide a continuous funding stream for conservation efforts and a valuable opportunity to educate the public about the important role that sportsmen and women play in conserving fish and wildlife.
Most importantly, the networks of businesses and individuals engaged in the 2% for Conservation™ model have a huge opportunity to spread the mission of conservation. It has never been more important for sportsmen and women to educate the public as to how hunters and anglers continue to fund, protect, and conserve fish and wildlife.
Since 2016, millions of dollars and thousands of volunteer hours have been donated to conservation causes by our members.
2% Certified Brands vary in industry, size, and conservation interests - but they all have in common their commitment for wildlife. This shared passion is reinforced in our work with them, driving collaborative efforts for fish and wildlife across hundreds of conservation causes and their work around the globe. While many business members are direct competitors of each other, when it comes to conservation, competition does not have room at the table.
Why “Purple?”
2% for Conservation believes in removing barriers to getting involved in supporting fish and wildlife conservation. Conservation should transcend political ideology, tribalism, and partisanship. One of our Committee Members from Washington State, Dan Wilson, wrote up a piece in our blog explaining this philosophy in further detail: “Why Purple”
